Testing Procedures

The Testing Procedures outlined in this manual applies to testing conducted by UK Sport and they follow the International Standard for Testing as determined by the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC). These procedures are applicable to testing In-Competition and Out-of-Competition.

When tested abroad, athletes may notice that the procedure for testing varies slightly from country to country. It is important that the sample collection procedures meet the same International Standard for Testing and therefore, the rights of the athlete as outlined below should be maintained.  Athletes are encouraged to read and understand their sport’s anti-doping regulations and testing procedures.

Doping Control Officers (DCOs)

A team of trained independent registered DCOs conduct testing in the UK on behalf of UK Sport. All DCOs are trained to comply with the International Standard for Testing and undergo an annual re-registration process. To ensure compliance they are regularly audited and monitored. DCOs in the UK are trained to notify, chaperone and observe sample collection and process samples.

Chaperones

UK Sport also has a team of trained Chaperones to assist the DCOs during doping control by conducting notification and escorting athletes until they report to the Doping Control Station.

NOTE: Chaperones in the UK do not witness sample collection.
